WHO

My name is Nawel Izard. I’m a lawyer, a mother, a former figure skating champion, a polyglot, a music lover, and a lifelong reader of Kurt Vonnegut and anything that tells the truth sideways.

My story begins in Algeria. In 1991, my family immigrated to Canada to escape the rise of terrorism and civil unrest. Like many immigrants, we arrived carrying hope in one hand and grief in the other. I learned English as my fourth language. I learned how to adapt, advocate, and survive.

I also learned how to skate.

Figure skating became my first language of power, of poise, of self-expression. It taught me how to fall with grace and stand up sharper. That instinct—to find beauty inside the hard things—has shaped how I live, and how I practice law.

I began my legal journey in 2015 as a summer student. After taking time to raise my son and reconnect with my values, I found myself in Campbell River—a place that felt less like a career move and more like a return to self. My work is rooted in real life: the messy, meaningful kind that deserves legal support that is both clear and kind.

I help people with family transitions, small business growth, tax-smart planning, and legacy work through estate law. I have a soft spot for those in farming, fisheries, and real estate—people whose work is woven into the land, and whose decisions ripple for generations.

I believe that law, when practiced with care, can be a tool of steadiness and self-determination. As Kurt Vonnegut wrote in Cat’s Cradle: “See the cat? See the cradle?”

We live inside stories we inherit but don’t always understand. My job is to help untangle the threads—to bring order to the chaos, clarity to the contracts, and meaning to the moments when life shifts shape.

When I’m not working, I’m dancing to A Tribe Called Quest in my kitchen, volunteering in my community, or reading something that breaks my heart open in the best way.

If you're looking for legal guidance that balances the real with the right, and paperwork with heart—I’d be honoured to walk with you.
