Cortes Radio: A Legacy of Music, Learning, and Community

On Cortes Island, radio is more than background noise—it’s a heartbeat. A reminder that music and story are part of how we know ourselves, and how we connect with one another. There’s a legacy here: songs that carried over the water, voices that stitched together this corner of the coast, a living archive that belongs to everyone.

Public radio matters because education doesn’t stop when the tassel turns on graduation day. Real learning doesn’t fit neatly into grade levels or job training modules. It’s the jazz set that opens your imagination, the late-night conversation that changes your perspective, the unexpected voice that says: you are more than the 9-to-5.

This fall, I’m honored to step into that tradition with something new. A radio show on Cortes Radio, launching Thursday, September 25th at 10 AM, airing weekly. I’ll keep the details close to the chest—because a little mystery is part of the magic—but let’s just say it’s a space for connection, curiosity, and maybe a twist or two.
